Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Gimp Missing
I ordered the 2 CD set of Mandrake 8.0 when it came out. In my KDE interface I have an icon for Gimp, but when I click on it nothing happens. I have tried installing it again from the CD using the software manager but it always says there are several things missing and cancels the install. I went to Gimp.org and downloaded it and tried to install it and the same thing happens. Is it because it is an RPM file and isn't handled correctly by the manager? I am using Gimp in BeOS and Win98 and really like it, so I wish I could use it in Linux. Is there any way to get a binary file of Gimp instead of the RPM package?

Well, RPM's are binary files. If you're having a problem, then I would think they're dependency problems, in which case even if I were to send you the gimp executable, you wouldn't be able to run it since some libraries are missing. My suggestion is to find out what libraries it requires, install that first, and then try installing gimp again.

Try installing from the command line using:
rpm -Uvh packagenameblahblah.rpm (noting the case)
This will tell you what is needed to install it.
To uninstall use:
rpm -e packagename
:p

Thanks everyone:
I finally got Gimp installed. I could only find a couple of the libraries it asked for (Like 2 out of 7) libaa1 and libgimp1.2.1
and it still ended the install asking for more files but the main Gimp program must have installed so I can run it and it seems to be working fine, so far.
Thanks again, djed.
