I have an email server that needs an upgrade because its running RH6.0. If I throw in a RH7.3 CD will it give me any trouble updating from so long ago? Will all my accounts still be there? Will my settings?

You may have problems upgrading from such a old version of Redhat.

I would suggest you try Redhat's support site to see if they have anything on upgrading from 6.0 to 7.3.

What if it was done in sequence?

Maybe 6.0->6.2->7.0->7.1->7.2->7.3 ?

That sounds kind of complicated, and it seems there's plenty of things that could screw up, though...

Is it working properly, though? I would just upgrade packages that are vital to the system, as I'd be willing to bet there are updated versions of what you're running.

Can't you just back up all import files and reinstall. I'm sure that would prevent any upgrading issues.

Well, the problem is:
I have a good number of pop mail only users and everynow and then someone cant access their account remotely for some odd reason (while the rest can, so we have to create that person a new account) and we can not figure out why. So the consensus was to upgrade the server to see if that would fix the problem.
What is the easiest way to back up several users and all of their files. Each folder, one by one?? I assume if I keep the passwd file that their passwords will remain the same. :confused:
Any help on how to backup the important stuff would be appreciated. :D

Do you have another system you can use to install Redhat 7.3 and then copy over the mail and user settings etc. just to test to see if 7.3 will actually fix the problem?

Backing up? I guess it depends on what type of backup media you will be using and if you have any backup software.

Everything in /etc and /home/<user> should be backed up and possibly other directories/files. You would know your mail server better than anyone here.
