I have been trying to get the alcatel adsl modem installed on my redhat 7.1 distro.
I get to the point where everything is installed and the kernel has been patched etc.
Then the howto states that i type 'pppd'
this is setup in one of the config files as running the following file:
'/usr/lib/pppd/plugins/pppoatm.so'
however, at no point do i have a dir pppd, where does this come from?
Am i missing some module?

thx.

ice.

Yeah, I think u simply missed to patch your kernel with the pppoa... It wasn't written in you howto ?
Which howto are u using ? If you want I'll search back the one that I used, he was very good...

I recently installed the alcatel modem with linux, so feel free to mail me if you have any question... :)

If you're talking about the USB Stingray, I had one running for a while (got a router now). Anyway, it sounds like you are missing the PPPoA aware ppp daemon. You can get one here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=23818), along with some other goodies. It sounds like you found some good documentation, but just in case you missed it, here's the best one that I found (http://feenix.burgiss.net/ldp/adsl/speedtouchusb.html). Have fun, DSL rocks.

By the way, have a look at this :
http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/howto.html

A very complete howto, with all the links to the files you need. ;)
