Has anyone seen ncftp hang on a put transfer? I know I've attacked this problem in the past (just can't remember if I fixed it..heheh). I'm connecting to a warftp server running on NT 4.0. The only reason I mention it is because it might be related to some active/passive thing with the client. Hmmm.. I'll go read about that again and post if I find the fix. Just wanted to know if I'm alone on this one......

Nope, you are not alone.
I do think it has something to do with the active/passive thing. I've had the same problem uploading .png images to my ISP's webpage server. ncftp kept hanging for no reason which bambuzzled me for a bit
I loaded up a GUI ftp client (gftp) and it uploaded just fine.
I think there is a variable to set passive on or off which should work...
(set passive on)
check your settings in
$HOME/.ncftp/firewall
$HOME/.ncftp/prefs

still have not been able to fix this problem so I thought I'd try and continue this thread. I have verified that the problem does not exist with the server (had an irc friend log in with a test account that was given the same permissions). I can also duplicate this problem from another linux workstation using ncftp so the issue must exist with ncftp. I've also been able to duplicate this problem using gftp (don't remember the version) so I'm kinda running out of ideas.

I can't believe I'm the only one who's seen this kind of problem

for those that are curious, I've narrowed the problem down to War FTP running on NT. I guess War deals with windoze clients no problem but hiccups when a linux client connects. I've verified this by installing Vermillion FTP Server (www.arcanesoft.com) and now I can upload from my linux client no problem. Now I've just got to find a better server to run on NT. Not really happy with this Vermillion thing at all...
