LinuxIdiot Wonock 11-21-2000, 12:08 AM What distro you planning to use. I know that Mandrake has a partitioning tool that comes with it. Although, I just attempted to install 7.2 lasst nite, and it trashed my Win98 partition. Hopefully, it won't happen again. LinuxIdiot veloctTX 11-21-2000, 12:55 AM I think the deluxe edition comes with a version (not-full) of Partition Magic but you can also use FIPS. If you use fips, make sure you defrag your drive first. D-Termind 11-21-2000, 12:56 AM Originally posted by LinuxIdiot: I'm planning on using Mandrake 7.2. LinuxIdiot I've installed/reinstalled Mandrake 7.2 about 5 times on my system and it never messed with my Win98. I've got to admit that Mandrake is very considerate of not doing that. I am a complete newbie and that much I'll say for it. Due to OTHER things I am again trying out other distros. BTW, once you DO get it installed be wary of the update to linuxconf and some others. If any of the updates give you the option of "FORCING" something say NO. Otherwise you'll likely end up with a dependency problem. ------------------ D-Termind A_Lawn_GNOME 11-21-2000, 01:03 AM You could try FIPS. It splits your hard drive non-destructively. Just be sure to defrag it and know where the data ends because it won't check to see if it is cutting off files. winnotgoneyet 11-21-2000, 02:43 AM When I installed MD 7.1 there was something in the instructions about not using the auto configure option in the partition portion of the install! If you have a partition on your drive seperate of win98, and you select that drive to be formated for Linux, it will leave win98 alone and probably install grub as a boot loader, just don't let it install to the partitions automatically r1ccard0 11-21-2000, 11:57 AM You can Partition Magic 5.0 will do it, though I would be recommend rebuilding the system from scratch anyway! justlinux.com
