mplayer is pretty good. You can grab it from freshmeat I believe.

I like xanim for avis and mtvp for mpegs.

I use MPlayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/news.html)
for watching long movies (such as DivX) and XMPS (http://xmps.sourceforge.net) for watching short video clips and some movies that MPlayer doesn't play.

I like to use XMMS with the mpeg and avi plugins. They also have a quicktime plugin as well. Good player. It's a ported version of WinAmp. http://www.xmms.org
