This isn't what you think. I am not really a sick, pathetic person. I am actually talking about linux.
Which really is the smallest disto. And I mean small. I mean the kind of thing that I could stick on the spare 220MB HD I have lying around. I don't care about the net, I don't care about X. I just want an exceptionally tiny OS, and it has to be linux. And I want to download tonight.

"tmsrtbt" is a single-floppy distro. Great if you need to do some "rescue" work with you're "fat" distro.

I assume you want some functionality, and a relatively recent distro as well.
Peanut has X, Netscape, IRC clients, PPP, etc. and it is about 160mb with a full install, not counting swap space. And, Peanut uses Slack packages for easy additions later.
You can install the base, console apps, and network disk sets (a, ap, n) of slackware into about 125mb or so - I assume Debian would have a similar size with the same options.
A "pick nothing, just give me the system" install of Redhat 6.2 is about 125mb as well, but that doesn't include apps, etc.
With all of these, forget about a compiler - the required glibc libraries are 100mb alone.

Here's some mini distros
http://linuxstart.com/distributions/mini/index.html
Vector Linux (http://metalab.unc.edu/vectorlinux) is relatively smale with about 175mb for the install (60mb to download). They suggest reserving 300mb for install, spare space, and swapfile.
Found the install was smaller than originally thought.

Linux From Scratch would probably fit (http://linuxfromscratch.com/). You need to know what you're doing though.
