It is easy to find a small distro that includes just console apps and no X or X apps.

Is there a distro that includes as many X apps as possible and as few console apps as possible? I need to set up a very newbie-ish laptop (that means similar to MS-Win, I´m afraid) where hard disk space is very limited. All console-only apps would be useless for the intended owner.

it would be blashphemy to leave out the console apps...and besides, linux can't really function without most of them.

just pick your favorite distro, and only install the programs you need, X-based or otherwise.

trouble with just installing the needed apps is that it takes a long time to select.

Even worse, if I dont need it, I wont know what it is, so I cant exclude it safely because it might be needed elsewhere.

there is no selecting with peanut, you can't unselect or anything, it just loads linux/KDE, that is it, i don't even know for sure what console / CLI stuff is loaded, but not much at all

the install is a little tricky if you have only done mandrake 7/8 installs, but you'll finger it out ;)
