has anyone got a URL tucked away somewhere that would lead me to older versions of Redhat? i've been to their FTP site, but all the folders are empty. i tried the search engine built into www.redhat.com, (http://www.redhat.com,) and i've been to google. i actually wanted the system requirements too, but those are even harder to find.
any ideas? or another place to look?
thanks!

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/redhat/
Surf down from there, but that link is good for only 6.2 on up.
In real desperation? I could possibly mail my old Redhat CDs for 4.0 and 5.0.

thanks for the cd's, but i think i'll be ok. i managed to find redhat 5.2 after some real digging. have you got any idea of the system requirements? or where to find them?
at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/5.2/en/iso/i386/
there are a few different iso files:
redhat-5.2-i386.iso
redhat-5.2-srpms.iso
do i need the second one?

redhat-5.2-srpms.iso
do i need the second one?
You probably won't "need" the second one. However, that .iso image contains the source code files for that version ofr RedHat. It may be necessary if you re-compile the kernel or if the kernel source headers are required for some other package that needs to be compiled.

at the risk of turning this into a " what distro is best" question, im looking for something than will run a gui, however slow, on a 486. i tried slack... no go.
so, i thought maybe RH 4 or 5 would work? even if they dont, i still want a copy of them. never know when its going to come in handy, or when someone's about to toss an old computer.
oh, and BTW, when i try to download RH 5 from ftp.redhat.com, it says "login denied", so im back to searching for it...

Go to www.cheapbytes.com (http://www.cheapbytes.com) and see if they still sell Mandrake 7.02 (Air) for i486. I have personally run it on a Dell 486, not the fastest one nor with the most ram, and it works pretty good. Slow, but not molasses slow. Also, maybe it can be downloaded somewhere.
It takes like 450 MB HD space to load with KDE, I had it on a 540 MB HD, and it had most of the goodies you would ever want. Also, I put it on another HD, using EZ-BIOS and no Win, and it worked fine. I think I had like 32MB Ram, if that info helps.
I guess my point is, you don't need to use totally obsolete stuff just because you have a 486. 7.02 has KlyX, etc. Also, remember in text mode (level 3) it will be pretty fast.
Try this URL, and tell them you might join any day soon:

thats some great info, thanks. i've tried like 4 different distros... the tech is so old that X has a lot of problems, and i just give up after 50 or so combinations inputted in rapid succession!
i dunno if its temporary, or not, the link to the mandrake site gives me a 404. what was it for? maybe i can find it some place.
thanks though, now i've got a distro with possbilities.
FYI, the machine is a DX2(66), 52 megs ram, 2 gig hd... and a 9 inch monitor so old that its probably the cause of most my problems, including my loss of vision.
