Far be it from me to reopen The Great partitioning debate, but I have a question that sort of pertains to one side of it. Every time i've installed Linux before, i've always just done / and swap, maybe /home. Of course, all the other things still appear, as directories in my / partition. My question is this. If i get more *****ious, and get into making a million separate partitions for everything, if the average install smart enough to place the files in their correct partitions, or will i have to move them in there? I mean, will all my files that normally install to my root partition in directory /var now appear in the partition /var, thus freeing space on my root partition? Any help would be appreciated.
