well first off i havnt been in linux stuff in a while just havent had the time to get mine set up. but now i am getting it going. my questions are.

my sound doesnt work or isnt detetced when i loaded linux. i am using mandrake 7.2 and it is all i have curently. i know it is a via chipset built into my motherboard but that is all i know. where can i look to find out what it is so i can see where i need to go to get it working?

second, my modem isnt working. it is a hardware based pci modem with a intel chipset. there are linux drivers on the site i got the modem from and on intels site. i tried doing what it said to do to install it and it still wont work. mandrake keeps giving me a message saying my modem is busy. what type of information do you need to know to give me better help on getting this fixed?

thanks for the help guys and girls.

First turn off PnP OS in the bios and see if that fixes some of the problems.

See if the bios change works first. Hopefully it will.
