I'm a graphic designer and am thinking of switching to Linux from the Mac (just too expensive). I was wondering what the good graphics apps are and how do they compare with what I use.
The apps I use are: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, InDesign and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
It would be nice if there were apps that would open and save in the native formats (above).
I've heard some about Gimp and that it should soon have CMYK support. And I've heard of Killustrator but that's it.
Thanks for any info! :)

In the UNIX world, all the best applications are console-based. Better get used to it.

IBM has a html editor, but I can never remember the name of it.
Try searching at freshmeat.net for the applications you need. i.e. html editor or graphics etc.
Most distros come with quite a few graphic programs. Check the software list of the distro you are considering.
I've only used Gimp a couple of times. Looks quite powerfull.

Bluefish may be what you are looking for in an HTML editor.. I haven't used it but heard it was wysiwyg..

I too am a graphics person and I hate to tell you, but there isn't any linux that do what you want at the level you want (Gimp being the only exception to this). This is why I still have one machine that is windows 2000. I would like to be proven wrong on this but I doubt it'll happen. Sure, there are programs that can do vector graphic, page layout, etc.. BUT none of them are at the level of the programs you are currently using.
