I know that Mandrake is specially optimazied for i586 processors and higher. However, I want to know ABOUT how much faster Mandrake is than Redhat on say...a AMD K6-III 450? Can anyone help me any here?

I've switched back and forth in between RH 7.0 and Mandrake 7.0 the past week or so. I can't tell any difference in the speed between the two.

I think the difference is the kernel... If you kompile your own kernel in either it will be lightyears faster than the other with a precompiled kernel...

I have Mandrake 7.2 running on one PC and Red Hat 7 on another (both have AMD K6-3 CPU's). I see no speed difference at all.

The only difference I saw was that Red Hat (6.0) took FOREVER to start up, Mandrake didn't seem to have that problem.

As long as you recompile should be no difference.
