I am a Linux Newbie! Only obvious!?!?

I was wondering how I check my Linux Partitions? I am not sure if I am using the Full capacity of my drive that I have on my system, if that is the case I was wondering how I create Linux Partitions to?

I had the chance to create the partitions myself at the installation but I looked at it and like everything else in Linux it is in another Language so I just did the Automatic setup!

Another thing ... what is a good book to buy that will give me really good information and real informational?

How do I install a program? I have no idea how to do it. I got the Magazine "MaximumLinux" and it had a CD and I was looking at the programs and reading the "ReadMe" files and couldn't get anywhere cause I didn't understand what it was talking about.

Any Help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I am not sure what window manager you are using, but I know KDE and GNOME have some disk usage utilities. I you can bring up an terminal type
df -h to get a list of all partions and how much space each is taking up.

And as for a good book, check the O'Reilly 'Running Linux', for $34.00 at your local Barnes & Noble or similar bookstore. VERY helpful, IMHO. Good luck!
