So, what printer's best for linux? I'm using drake 7.1. Any suggestions?

My apologies but I'm just a crazy newbie (I'm only telling u this because the leprechaun on my shoulder told me to).
To be dead_bang certain, get an Epson dot-matrix printer. There are good ones, ya know.

The Lexmark Optra Color 40 is cheap fast, and works good. It uses Postscript 2, so it works even with generic drivers, but there is an option for it in the printer setup. I think I paid $80. Can't print large images unless you buy more memory for it though.
Canon's are fast and quiet, but I don't know how well they are supported in Linux.

My HP Laserjet 4L rules. Reliable as anything - no problems in about 5 or 6 years of having it, and it's generally well supported everywhere because it's so old.

I'm not an experienced user; however, I have set up Linux several times and I've never had a problem with my HP5. Works first time every time.

Personally, I'd go for a Canon. I've got a Canon BJC250 on my Linux box, and my "dearest darling" parents have a Canon BJC1000 on their 'Doze computer.
Not only do they provide great print quality, my BJC250's worked with no problems with Linux at all!
If you can afford it, though, get a laser printer! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
