I have a UMAX (blahblahblah) USB scanner that I would like to leave connected to my Debian-based server. Ideally, I'd want to access/control the scanner from Windows/Linux/whatever from another PC (assuming that I can get Debian to recognize and use the scanner itself). Is this possible? What software should I research?

Ive setup a few network scanners/MO drive combos in a unix envro. with custom software and hardware for this, very expensive. It requires a lot of software/hardware colaboration for this to be possible something Im not sure linux has or standard scanning equipment can handle.
