I use a FAT16 5 gig SCSI hard drive for Windows. It's partitioned cause I was planning to try Linux on a paritition for it. But I've had nothing but trouble with EVERY major distribution not being able to recognize my SCSI card (Adaptec 1542c).

So I'm thinking just screw it, I'll convert that drive to FAT32 and use it solely for Windows and put in a 7 gig IDE drive for Linux. So far I haven't reformatted it (it was from an old junker). Can I use the Win98 startup disk to fdisk it? Should I make it FAT32 (can Linux be installed on a FAT32 drive). Or will I need to make it FAT16 so I can split it up into partitions. If I get that done, how can I set up my BIOS to look for the SCSI drive first? I have plugged in my IDE drive started up the machine, but the machine tries to boot from the IDE drive instead of the SCSI one. Can I like tell my BIOS to look at the SCSI drive first to see what OS I'd like to boot with? I'm pretty new to this sorry.

Maybe this here (http://howto.tucows.com/LDP/HOWTO/BootPrompt-HOWTO-6.html) might help. Look for ' Adaptec aha154x (`aha1542=') ' on the page. When you go to install again, if possible enter in the parameters on this page and the distro of your choice might be able to recognize your card. No guarantees.
