I was recompiling some sound stuff into my kernel when all of a sudden, the system hung. I put in a new hdd 2 days ago so that may have caused it. Anyway, when I went back to recompile, it said that there was an error with the /usr/src/linux/drivers/misc/.depend file and that it was corrupt. How can I recover from this? Should I just redownload the kernel tar file?

Yes, that would be advisable.

You deleted the downloaded file already?

Yeah, it was kernel 2.2.17. I messed up my sound configuration and was redoing it. No biggie - I've got 2.4.2 all ready to go. Just gotta do my iptables tonight and that should be that. Thx
