Can somebody please explain to me why Linux doesn't support this modem. I know it is a 'winmodem', but what really does this mean? Is the hardware different? If not, I can't understand why Linux can't communincate with a 'winmoden'. Many people have these type of modems, and If Linux would support it, their marketshare might be more significant.

Winmodems are software driven modems desighned just for Winblooze,, BUT I know for a fact that Lucent has drivers for some of there WinModems to make them work under Linux. I have a freind that baught a notebook the other day and it came with Linux drivers for the WinModem that came with it...
To my knowledge they are the only company that has drivers or has gotten there Winmodems to work under linux,, the drivers are in the alpha stage tho and are still full of bugs. Try looking on Lucents website for some more info,, and or email and I will try to get thoes drivers for ya and email you them..

It's because the WinModem operates with an virtual Com Port, driven by its software.
I've never heard about linux drivers. Please mail me if you'll find some.
