Ok well i installed it as root with the /net option then went and installed under user again to get it up and running.. all fine and dandy so far.. even ran properly then..
BUT after a reboot i get an error saying that so can't read /home/user/office52/user/sofficerc
i know the file is there and should be able to be read (heck i even tried chmod 777 on it) but it insists that it can't read it..
anyone got any ideas wtf this is about?
thanks

Make sure when you install staroffice you note where it is installed. They suggest
/opt/office52. That has been automatic on all the distos i have installed on, but slack, at least for me, wants to put it somewhere else. Then if you think it is there you can't find it. frustrating then.
Hope this helps

Well originally i had it installed to /usr/local/office52.. tried it in /opt/office52.. no go.. still same error..
even tried single user install (not as root) and still get the same problem..
I'm running LM7.2 but with a 2.4-test12 kernel.. maybe that has something to do with it.. doubt it though...

this what I did, though I dont know if step 2 is needed(I just do it for my own little reasons)
1)./so52* /net as root and install it to /opt/office52
2)./setup in /opt/office52/program as root
3)redo 2) as a user for there own small install in their own directories.

For some reason, Star Office is a bear to install in Linux. You might try calling Sun Micro and have one of their Techs walk you through it. Its free.
I ended up itstalling SO52 under Winblows and it went in GREAT!! Sad, huh? Now if it was just that easy under Linux.

I have installed in suse, drake and slack and only had the one problem cused by myself. Have had a harder time getting it to run on girlfriends windows machine.
