Okay, in SuSE when I install StarOffice I have Java Run time libraries available. But in Mandrake I don't. Now I have installed and am currently using Sun Microsystems Java Development tools and compilers. They work great. But I still can't do the StarOffice Java that I would like to do.

My question is how do I get the Java Runtime files installed into StarOffice 5.2? I have been looking for about 2 weeks now trying to resolve this but haven't found anything on this particualr issue.

just download and install the Java Development Kit from Sun's website. After Java is installed, simply run the StarOffice setup and when prompted, specify the location where it is installed (/usr/java I think).

I was never able to get Star Office 5.2 working with Java so that I could seamlessly use the integrated browser. Star Office seemed to recognize and accept the Java install but whenever I opened a URL that contained Java script an error message was displayed stating that no Java instalation had been found.

I was only able to get the older Star Office 5.1 working with IBM Java 1.1.8 never with anything else, and even then it bombed out on certain scripts.

My thought: Star Office + Java = frustration

I believe bushwacker is correct as you need the JDK and not just the JRE. Also read that in a post here some time ago.
