I am trying to install Red Hat 7.1 on an Athlon 850 mhz pc with 256 megs of ram. I get through the first couple screens with keyboard setup, monitor, and video card. Then as it begins to install the software, the installation keeps hanging and not responding at the "Transferring software image to hard disk" part of the installation. I used partition magic to format my drive and the start cylinder was above 1024 (i dont know why, the installation just picked that up and said that it highly reccomends that i create a boot disk when prompted, but that should only affect when i boot, atleast to the best of my knowledge). Does anyone know what could be going on? The cd is free of scratches. Thanks a lot.

hello,
i would start by uing the linux 'fdisk' to see what the partions look like. did redhat detect them as ext2 (type 83)? if not try using it to remake the partions. make sure you have 'lba32' in you lilo config so you can boot.
