OK, I saw this on a sysadmins screen, and was wondering how it was done.
On the login screen there was a picture of Tux along with the text login prompt. This was on a Mandrake 7.0 box. Where do you put stuff like this? Are there any folks out there who know what I am talking about?

Yeah I think I have seen that before. If I remember right it is in rc.local under mandrake boxes ... what it does is redirect the output of the logo program and set it in the issue file (/etc/issue). Mabey someone will be kind enough to post it that runs Mandrake http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

The CLI login prompt with tux in the upper left is a result of using a VGA mode screen setting. -- if you manage to get the tux thing in a telnet session ...I wanna know what telnet CLIENT you're using.

Where do you find such a setting?
What is the setting?
Anyone know how to play with that setting? or know where to find the info?

You can put ASCII art into the file /etc/issue and for network connections /etc/issue.net, but the penguin at bootup is the result of a framebuffered console and the penguin is hard coded into the kernel and can't be outputted like that to the telnet terminal

The TUX logo is on every login screen on most default Mandrake installs now. It is an RPM included in the distribution by default for recommended installations. I think it's linux_logo from memory.
