GUI probs

here is my problem:
i have just installed red hat 6.1 and installed gnome with that, when i start my computer i can never get to the GUI, always the prompt, why cant i get 'x'window or gnome, or any type of Gui interface is there some command i need to give it at the prompt?

If it is configured already - try "startx" . Then see what happens .

it says command not valid or something

did you install the X packager?
what exactly is the error message?
have you tried XF86Setup or xf86config?
