Agh, it seems like such a simple request: all I want is an ftp client, graphical or cli, that plays a sound or does some other distinctive thing to warn me that I'm connected and logged in. I heard that gFTP did this, but after downloading and installing it, it seems to lack this capability (although I may just have an old version, quite possible since I'm stuck on debian potato).
Anyone want to help a poor ftp leech out?

In my cli ftp on Redhat and on Winnt there is a command called bell in the client. Just type bell to turn it on. It should respond with "Bell mode on." Then whenever a command is finished it will sound a bell.
Hope that's what you needed.

No good... ftp only beeps when you do commands while you're connected, so it doesn't beep when you connect to a site.
Anyone else have any ideas?
