Is there such a thing for linux? I've just installed some truetype fonts from my Windows partition and they are STILL hard on the eyes. The text appears to be blocky and in chunks.
Since I'm completely used to seeing truetype fonts the windows way, is there a utility to use anti-aliasing on fonts? I seem to have recalled something like this before.
Thanks

If you happen to be using KDE 2.1 then KMenu -> Configuration -> KDE -> LookNFeel -> Style, and you will have an option for using anti-aliasing for fonts and icons. If you want to tweak it beyond that I read some info on that on KDE's site but don't have the link handy.

I'm using XFree86 4.0.3 and font anti-aliasing works fine. This being the default setup in Mandrake 8 (assuming you pick 4.x in the installler)

depends on your graphics card
i have ati rage 3d lt (or whatever) and it wasn't supported until xf4.1.0
now i've got native aa support (i tried it with a vesa driver before to see and hated it) i would find it difficult to go back to non aa
BTW, i find the aa works better with light text on dark background, the other way around can look a little kludgey to me, especially at small (11 and lower) point sizes
i don't like vast expanses of white blinding me all day anyway...
