Can someone please tell me what distro of linux will work on a 486SX 33mhz processor. It doesn't boot to cd rom. It doesn't find the cdrom because it is on some type of IO board thing. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Even if you can't get your cd going for install, you can install off floppies. Heck, you can even install it on a 486sx33 with 4mb of ram, if you are patient and read the 4bm Laptop howto. Strike 12-09-2000, 01:44 AM All of them should work equally well except for Mandrake, which only works on Pentiums and up. cs25x 12-14-2000, 03:28 PM tomsrbt and the small floppy distributions. But tom is good. There is also mu linux. ftp.ibiblio.org distributions is a good place you could also search for small linux distributions on www.alltheweb.com (http://www.alltheweb.com) or topclick.com The simplest complete distro to install is peanut, if you can download 60M. Once again ibiblio.org. The small distro people usually run a 2.0 kernel peanut 8.1 runs 2.2.18 and 8.2 has a 2.4 pre The peanut help board is down for a while but if you run setup like it asks and run lilo after it finishes, before you reboot, all should be well. Oh. there is a difference in disk space required, peanut will fit onto 170M ( just ) with a bit left over for you to use. Some of the small distros dont use your hard drive at all. justlinux.com
