Hey all,

Our company is looking for some product to inventory/track/manage multiple servers. Does anyone know if there is any sort of GPL'd software out there to do this. Interestingly enough, this is to track, mostly, NT servers (but I'm pushing to migrate to Linux!!). I have played with cheops, but that seems more to simply 'track' the uptime of servers. I'm looking for something to automatically catalog servers, OS type, Service pack, shares, maybe users, etc.

Any ideas would be great or directions would be very helpful.

Thanks much

P

There is Volution from Caldera though I doubt it's GPL. www.caldera.com (http://www.caldera.com)

I found something called OpenNMS, though I don't think it does all that I want it to do - does anyone have any experience with this?

Just started working with OpenNMS at my site. Sounds like we're in a similar situation when I consider that Management is close to committing themselves to NetHealth (Concord) and I'm trying to convince them to (at least) explore a linux-based alternative. I'd be happy to discuss further and will email you tomorrow.
