what are some of the best Debian or apt-based distros out there? (aside from the official Debian releases)

Conectiva 7.0 with its' apt+rpm package management system looks spiffy... I dunno about any others, though, (well, I've used Debian 2.2rX and Sid) and I've yet to try out Conectiva.

As far as I know there is only Libranet left.
Progeny, Storm and Corel all stopped continueing their distro's.

well, I guess I'll be trying out Libranet, then. (I just remembered that I did, in fact, try out Storm a long time ago...I kinda forgot about that since I converted it to regular Debian when it went under, and didn't really think twice about it at the time)

I just noticed (in a review (http://www.thedukeofurl.org/reviews/misc/libranet190/index.shtml) of Libranet) that the installer allows you to choose between ext2 and reiserfs when you format your partitions. score!!! :D

well then.

it looks like Woody might actually turn out to be a halfway decent release.

It'll be nice to have a Stable release with install support for journalling filesystems (ext2 is getting kinda old, IMO)...in fact, that was probably my biggest gripe about Potato. I have 2.2r3 cds, but I don't like to use them because they force me to use ext2 on my partitions, and I hate that. Libranet lets me use ReiserFS...why won't Potato?

*whine*whine*

You can download Woody Beta ISO's, also you can get the install disks (floppy) for ext3 all from Debian. The download is in Hungary though, I didn't find an American download site for the ISO.

ftp://ftp.fsn.hu/pub/CDROM-Images/debian-unofficial

ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/woody/main/disks-i386/3.0.15-2001-10-18/udma100-ext3/

But remember its Beta.

Heck the testing version "Woody" is so stable I am considering upgrading to Sid just to see what unstable means!

I've recently upgraded to Sid... oh, and be careful with KDE; there's a bug in one of the libs that makes Konqueror crash when you select things. I've installed Opera as my backup (gui) browser for these kinds of issues ;)

btw, is it just me, or are Australian girls especially cute?

Well I don't use KDE so that isn't a problem.
