modem issues

Okies, I've searched and haven't found what I'm looking for (or haven't looked long enough). I am running Mandrake 7.1 and I have an old 14.4 ISA modem. Mandrake found it and configured it. I can dial (I hear it dial) and then connect but after it connects it hangs up. I tried in a terminal, and I kept getting invalid username/passwords (FROM TWO DIFFERENT ISP's - so I know it can't be the wrong un/pw). Any ideas?

It may be the authentication method - some use chap, others use pap, some just use a login script. Try calling your ISP and asking what they use...

well the first ISP (I hate to admit it) is MSN (microsoft) - and they aren't going to help at all (trust me the tech support isn't worth crap) - but hey it's free. Secondly, I tried this with another ISP as well, and I tried PAP and CHAP on both. Thanks tho, any other suggestions?
