The subject says it all. out of the box, nothing in kde2 works in mandrake 7.2 . This is because the version of libpng they use does not coexist well with the version of qt they use. As a result, the konqueror (and some other apps) segfault as soon as you try to start them. Has anyone managed to fix this? The solution is to either downgrade libpng or upgrade qt. I have been unable to do either one. When I downloaded an rpm of an older version of libpng, I couldn't get it to install. rpm refuses to install it because there is already a newer version installed and because of dependencies. What's the solution to this?

Alternately, I tried to upgrade qt. I downloaded an rpm, but when I tried to install it, got complaints about dependencies. The rpm wasn't for drake 7.2 . Does anyone know where I can find an rpm of qt 2.2.2 or higher that is?

I know people here use mandrake, so someone else must have went through this right? I've been trying to get kde to work for weeks now. Thanks,
Frizzle

If you want to install a rpm older than the current version, you have to use --force (rpm -ivh --force XXXXXXX.rpm). For Qt, this is a link to the latest version (hope you know how to install a tarball ... Mail me or post a message for help)

KDE 2.1 was just released today. It should contain all the fixes you need :)

Cheers!

The conflict here is between libpng and qt. Are you sure that upgrade kde will have any effect?

I think you mey have gotten the beta version. I don't have a problem with KDE apps, and have MDK7.2 on two computers.

No its not beta. I installed it as an upgrade where I had previously been running an older version of mandrake. If you installed it from scratch that might be why things were different. But believe me, and I am not the only one to have this happen, not by a longshot.
