I've downloaded mandrake 8.0 four times and burned 4 separate install cds. I've got an older IBM P100 with 128mb ram, and a 4 gb IDE HD just screaming for Linux. WHen I boot, I get an error about second stage ramdisk. If I enter through, I get into the install and after partitioning the HD, I get an error which says I'm missing the basesystem package. Can this be a hardware problem or are the four separate downloads I've done all bad? Do I need to stick a crowbar in my wallet and buy the cd's? I've triple checked the jumper settings and at one point had the mandrake firewall loaded successfully. But I really want the 8.0 dist.
Thank's in advance for any opinions...

You could try looking up the error at Google (http://www.google.com/linux) to see if there is a suggested solution.

Anyway you can run md5sum against the iso's and compare to the figures from where you downloaded? The security NHF's have an article on md5sum which can also be run in Windows if you download the package.

As a last resort, you can get the 2 CDs for $5 at linuxcentral (http://www.linuxcentral.com).

Or if you're in a frenzy, Drake 8 is available at places like Walmart/BestBuy/CompUSA for under $30...

 Mandrake

Thanks guys, I couldn't get anyone on mandrakes website to respond to my quesitons. I found tons of stuff on google about it. Looks like some of the FTP sites had or have some sort of problem....
Thanks for the linux central tip too.
