Remote access timeout values for SSH/FTP

I have a simple administrator question here: I have Mandrake 8.0 on my server, which requires users to use SSH and FTP quite frequently. My problem is this: The timeout value for both are very low. how can i control the timeout value for TCP/IP connections, so frequent dissconnects occur less frequently?L

do the people who connect to you have static ip's and/or tld, then you can add them to your hosts.allow or hosts file

many of these connections are done from behind a firewall on a server which i cannot access. How would i change the keep-alive rate of something like this? Thanks in advance. :confused:
