I just skipped over to give Mandrake 8.2 a try. So far it runs PERFECT. I have once question. I go to Control Center and then Hardware then display and change the resolution of my screen. I go through a few things in expert mode and change it to the size I want. I have a 19in monitor and a geforce 256 graphics card so i know i can view better resolutions. can someone help. First do i need to reboot the system or just kde?

Once you've made the changes to have them take affect just restart x. pressing your ctrl-alt-backspace will take to console or a splash screen. Under console just startx and your done. Under splash screen maybe choose the restart x option just incase although I don't think you need to.

Edit it manually in /etc/X11/XF86Config ( -4 in mandrake )
Are you root when you try to change ? ( Haven't used mandrake much so I don't know if you have to be root to change in kde )
Have you installed the Nvidia drivers or has mandrake detected your card ?

Yes Mandrake installed the drivers for me. What part of the Config file do i need to edit?

Scroll down to the bottom. There should be an entire list of resolutions for you to try out. The first one listed is the first one tried, and also keep an eye on what it has set as the default color depth.

Thanx.. I changed the first resolution from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200. I changed them all and now it looks great.

Is the resolution at a level you cant see the entire box to hit the apply button when you chang the resolution??
If so use the ctrl alt (+) or (-) to change the reolution. Then go in and set the default.
