Umm, these kinda seems like an odd question.
But...
When I go to linuxiso.org and click any iso image.
Heh.
My Netscape browser opens a new page and the whole image starts to download into my browser page...
Is this right?
I know the image is in text but this seems wrong to me.
That amounts to one hell of a web page...
650+mg
What is the standard thing to do with the image.
I have Mandrake 7.2 and all the CD burner software that came with it.
Got to put this big cable pipe to work!
The Download speeds are excellent at linuxiso.org
And Linux does not freak out with routing problems on 100+KB downloads like Win 98 did.
And if this download into my Netscape browser is normal what do I do with it/how do I save it when I it is done...
Help me so I can clean out the Linuxiso website.
And make cool CDs to convert my friends to Linux.

You can also just hold down the Shift key and then left click on the link.

No wait a minuite.
Only left click options are to save link or open link in different window.
No save as...
Same goes for Konqueror.
These has got to be an easy answer here somewhere...
NS isn't the best choice for really big downloads tho..

Holding the shift and clicking brings up the familiar save as window!
Bliss!
:D
Now how was I supposed to know that if nobody told me?

One more Question...
When I have the ISO image...
Do I have to "do" anything to it before I save it to a CD???
Or just copy is as is to my blank CD???

Nope ya don't have to do anything before ya burn it. Ya should take a look at how to use cdrecord though (cdrecord -help and cdrecord -scanbus). Don't forget to have scsi emulation in your kernel if you don't allready have it :).

When you go to burn the cd from a .iso, select the option "Create CD from image" (or something like that). This will create the actual cd layout, as opposed to just putting the .iso, as a file, onto the cd.

cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 1.9
sg driver version: 2.1.39
libscg version 'schily-0.1'
cd record -h might as well be in russian or chinese...
dont have a clue
i need a clue here

Haven't read through all the posts but you should use a dedicated FTP client when downloading ISO files. Netscape will download ISO files as ASCII instead of binary which will prevent you from burning an installation CD.

Try xcdroast to burn the CD's instead of using cdrecord. It is more intuitive. It has a nice user inteface and works well too.

By reading the Netscape documentation as I did. ;)

Thanks for all the replies...
I downloaded 3 ISOs by linking through netscape...
So if they are all bad I consider that quite funny..
2 hrs each at 100KB you know...
And as far as XCDRoast I cannot configure that for the life of me.
I tried and tried and tried...
Says I have not defined a directory...
The only place it allows me to enter a directory i put /tmp but I think it actually wants 2 directories...
The larger directory space above is empty but I can't do anything there...
Adaptec/MS ws idiotproof...
So I was safe for me...
Endresult...
About 5 days and still no burned disks...
I recently caught wind of Shell command line CD burning...
Sounds interesting but may be out of my league...
Also, how do I do the checksum?...
:p

Of all the toasters I've tried, gcombust seems to be the easiest to set up and make work. Haven't had great success with xcdroast or gtoaster.
Yup, you're right. Getting some of the Linux apps configured is challenging, mainly because they don't have great documentation and sometimes get fouled up in Linux's much tighter security. And, quite frankly, some of them (most of them?) are quasi-beta works in progress.
But, once you get Linux and the apps you want running (that's half the fun!), you'll start to appreciate how much better Linux is vs. Windows for just about everything. So, stick with it -- you won't be sorry. ;)

I second the praise for gcombust. I find it's pretty well laid out and makes sense in general. Good program for making both audio and data CDs (though for data I just use mkisofs and cdrecord... of course all gcombust does is use cdrecord anyway :)).
BTW, to do an md5sum, just run md5sum name-of-file and it should spit the MD%SUM right out - compare that to the one on the website... if they differ, you got a bogus download. Otherwise, you most likely did not.
