How about it ? How many use Gnome ? How many use KDE and/or KDE2 ? How many of you are Blackbox or X-windows ? How many are "command line only" ?
Just being curious, I suppose....

Personally, I use Helix-Gnome (sometimes) but am using KDE2 more and more, but would like to try some other window managers and/or desktop environments....

Anyone try Xfce ? Or maybe some other "not so well known" WM's or DE's ?!?!

I'm using WindowMaker right now cuz it's relatively small and fast and is just so clean and cool lookin. I like it.

Was using Helix/Gnome but I just dont like the file manager and the general ugliness of it. Just my opinion.

KDE all the way! I'll be trying out KDE2 once I can download the new Mandrake 7.2. GNOME has some cool features, but I generally can't stand the file manager, and a few other things about it tick me off.

Debian with BlackBox and several kde apps. Sometimes IceWM (when I need to have a quick task bar), and the command line a lot.

Really, for me, it's a mood thing. Sometimes I like the crispness of blackbox. It really is a nice environment. No clutter and fast!
I've been using helix very happily (with sawfish) but have enjoyed the change of pace with kde2.
But honestly, sometimes, when I log in, I open the menu and click on one randomly and work with whatever comes up. WM is nice but I"ve also come to appreciate AfterStep.
So, really, they all suit me just fine at some point. (Oh, I often tire of E... just too much stuff going on there.) My two cents...

How many of you are Blackbox or X-windows?

If you're using a window manager, you're most certainly using X http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif

IceWM, GNOME/Sawfish, KDE/KDE2, Afterstep, WM, BlackBox, E, Sawfish, and Xfce. I really like Gnome and IceWM. I use them all just try something different.

Gnome/KDE which ever I feel like.

Not good enough yet to survive with out some sort of GUI.

At least with linux anyway.

I use HelixGnome with Enlightenment as the wm. The only reason is I like having some sort of taskbar to place some icons

I used to use gnome, then blackbox, and now kde. Having a ton of memory (224mb) makes it easy to not worry about needing a lightweight wm.

Another point for Window Maker from me (why oh why did Steve Jobs get rid of NeXT???). Window Maker is... It's Window Maker man, why do you need an explanation??!?!?!!! Actually, Window Maker is really GNUStep, so... But, whatever...

I think that GNOME looks better than KDE(2), but KDE, IMHO, is easier for a Windows user (it has been around for a lot longer than GNOME). Almost every thing in KDE is loosely integrated, and it looks a little like Windows as well.

Alittle thought about the computer age and need to change what OS you try and sell. . .
Me (junior SA): hello?
Salesman: Hello, I was wondering if you'd be interested in buying software that makes sure that your servers have an up-time of 99%.
Me : um, not really we are pretty good here.
Saleman: Really, hum. Our servers monitering program will make sure your Windows server never goes down.
Me: we don't run Windows.
(Silence)(a cough)
Me: (cheaking the uptime date). The last time the servers were brought down was 9 monthes ago. Thats cause I updated their versions. . .

It seems I always come back to Blackbox.

I'm trying out kde2 on another user account now. It's pretty, lots of makeup, but I'm not sure I'm willing to commit to it yet.

Hell even with 256mb RAM and a 256mb Swap Partition, gnome/E will eventually swallow the whole 256 of RAM and start eating at the swap. So I am basically running E or BB from now on and I'm flying fast again. Of course once I get LM 7.2 I'll install EFM and probably use E exclusively. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
