I'm, thinking of getting Mandrake 7.2, and wanted to know what I need to do to multiboot, and if it supports LS-120 drives. I'm currently running an ABIT BP6 with 2 C366@550, a GeForce 256, Montego Quadzilla sound card, 3Com 3c905B NIC, and Promise ATA100 IDE controller. I've been having trouble finding out if it supports my hardware. I'm currently multibooting DOS, win98 and win2k, and would like to add Linux to that. Any suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Here's what I can tell you.
What are you using to munti-boot between your windows versions?
thereare several boot managers with linux. Mandrake come with Lilo and Grub, I beleave. I've had the best luck with loadlin. but opther people will swear by something else.
what ever you try, there are NHF's to help you out with the install.
I curently use loanlin to go between win98, 2 different dos modes, redhat 6.2 and Mandrake 7.1.
It should support your system and IDE controler. I know it will Mandrake 7.1 supports the 3com NIC. I couldn't tell you about the GeForce card. I'm not rich enough to have one to play with. It should work though. also if yur sound card is generic enough, it should work too.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input, and to answer your question, I'm not using a boot manager at this time, I've never had the need to.

check the mandrake web site... they have all the compatible hardware there.

I have a similar set up, and I have no problems with my geforce 256, my abit bh6, or my 3com 3c905. however, I believe that your Montego card uses an aureal chipset (as does my montego II). Unless mandrake has changed this since 7.1, you will need to get a special kernel module for this to run. There is a NHF for doing this, but I believe the link is no longer valid because the aureal.linux site is dead (as is aureal). However, I think sourcefordge picked up the project and actually improved the module somewhat. One last thing worth mentioning is that I had to recompile my kernel to get this to work because mandrake's 7.1 kernel comes with sound support as a module, and for the aureal driver (the one that came from aureal...don't know about the sourceforge one) needs to have sound support directly compiled into the kernel. This might seem like a lot to do for a newbie, but you will catch on real fast and there is a lot of help available. Just don't plan on sound support in linux for a short time while you get your feet wet.

There are plenty of boot managers available. Personally I use a program called mstboot I downloaded and paid $10 American after a 30 day free trial. I hear Ranish Partition Manager is a good free one. You can also use LILO which comes with all Linux distros.

I am not sure but I think that ATA100 support is not in 7.2 but like I said I am not sure. You could try to post in mandrakeforum.com or look it mandrakeuser.org.
