Does anyone know a good player for either of these types of media files? I used to run them with Realplayer in Windoze, but they won't work in SuSE. Any thoughts?

The xmms plugins are nice.

not to sound as ignorant as I really am, but what are the xmms plugins? And how do I get them?

You may want smpeg (gtv) and avifile. They work fine for me.

install a program called xmovie. It will play nearly all .mpg files and most .avi files.

are there any dependant libraries I need to run xmovie?

actually, I just went to get xmovie, and it seems to not want to run. I can't even recognize the rpm because it has a number below 3. Do you know what that's about?

i use mplayer, its a really nice player that supports just about everything. http://mplayer.sourceforge.net/homepage/
I couldn't get any other player working quite as nice as this one.

I second the recommendation for mplayer.
