Anyone gotten mplayer to work with a nVidia card?
when I do xvinfo, I get.
---------------------------------
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
no adaptors present
----------------------------------
that can't be good
When I check the file in DOCS/ called VIDEOCARDS I see....
-------------------------------------
- nVidia users sell their card.. or download the nVidia driver from
nVidia's website
-------------------------------------
well... if you put it that way.
Guess I'll go get this driver, but then what do I do with it?
Has anyone does this before? Cyaz.

I wish I could get it to compile at all. I have a Geforce 2 GTS myself, and the nvidia drivers are properly installed. What distro are u using?

I'm using SuSE7.1
I just went to get the drivers and read this readme. http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_readme_install
The driver RPM's seem to have installed okay. (How can I be sure they really did)
I restarted X, but xvinfo still says nothing about card info.
I see in that read me it says to edit the XF86Config file...
Seems scary. Heh. It says to....
If you already have an XF86Config file working with a different driver
(such as the 'nv' driver), then all you need to do is find the relevant
Device section and replace the line:
Driver "nv"
with
Driver "nvidia"
In the Module section, make sure you have:
Load "glx"
You should also remove the following lines:
Load "dri"
Load "GLcore"
I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the XF86Config file though
I see two Device sections...
Section "Device"
Identifier "Primary-Card"
VendorName "---AUTO DETECTED---"
BoardName "---AUTO DETECTED---"
# Option "sw_cursor"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic VGA"
VendorName "Unknown"
BoardName "Unknown"
Chipset "generic"
EndSection
I take it the one talking about "Generic VGA" is suppsoed to be my Nvidia card?
Think that's right? Should I just replace that section with
Driver "nvidia"
like the readme says?
scary stuff. don't wanna break X!

I have never messed with my XF86Config file before... first time for everything huh.
Is this the kinda thing i want to do?

Hey, in XF86Config there is a SCREEN section, and a DEVICE section, I see stuff about Nvidia in both of them i these sample Config files... I take it Device is the card, what is screen? aren't those the monitor settings? why would Nvidia stuff be in there?
