I want to edit grub so that Win starts automatically instead of Drake 7.1, so the kids don't call me at work again and again.
I have found /boot/grub/menu.1st and I know that I need to change the "default" from 0 to 2; but how do you edit it. What do I use and how do I use it?

Some more information. I have looked in DrakBoot but it lists LILO and not Grub, even though it is Grub that loads. I don't want to play with that until I know what I am doing, and I don't.
So, How do you "load" it in to an editor, and what then please?

As root cd to /boot/grub
pico or vi menu.lst
change the linux to +1 or +2 and then chage the winders to 0 that should do it.

Look at this post I give a link to MUO (mandrakeuser.org) and they have a lot of details on GRUB. I know that in GRUB the first like after the enviroment is set is the default so it may just be a matter or copying the line for windows to be the first line after the enviroment variables.

I fired up Emacs, took one look and closed it down again. I,m not ready for that yet.
I went back in to DrakBoot and changed the default OS there to Win. This has worked in that Win is now the default OS but it is doing it with LILO and not Grub now.
I would like to go back to Grub with Win as the default. Is there an easy way to do this in DrakBoot or do I have to learn how to use a text editor first.
Thanks.

In DrakConf there is a utility called Tools for Booting. It gives the option of changing the set up for Lilo or Grub. Once you choose the hard drive or partition you want to boot first, you choose the name of the OS you want to boot first. Then you simply check the radio button for default. I think that is how it went for me.
