I know this may sound stupid but i have an idea and wonderd if anyone else had tried it or new if it would work or be worth trying.
Since the internet browsers for linux r limited when it comes to java and plugins like flash and shockwave, i.e. get less built for them. Although the new Konqueror for KDE 2 is nice. Anyway i know that there is software outt here that claims to run Mac programs efficiently and fast, and i was thinking seeing that I.E. is available for the mac you could run this version through the Mac emulator.
What do you think worth a try. =[ http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/redface.gif)

Think of all the API calls and OS dependent stuff with Internet Explorer. We'd have to have the source to IE and (shudder) windows... oops. Someone already has that http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif Seriously, though. IE is soo integrated into the OS, I'm doubt it'll work without the umbilical cord.

Hi:
You could run it from Win4Lin, a product similar to VMWare http://www.trelos.com
IIRC it's $50.
Or you could run Solaris, as MSIE has been ported to
Maximumlinux had an article on how to get IE 5 to run in linux. I think there article detailed how to do it through wine. Apparently it was a real pain to set up and looked worse than it does in Windows.

I'm actually posting this message from IE5 running on Win95 on top of Slackware Linux using Win4Lin. It works perfectly and runs nearly as fast as it would on a straight out Windows installation. The coolest thing is that when IE crashes it doesn't take my whole operating system with it forcing a reboot or causing lost work.

That sure sounds like a lot of work just for IE. Personally I will just use Netscape! It works just fine for me

Concerning Netscape vs. IE...
You never know how many pages You'll get when printing out. I think Netscape has this feature (?). Would be nice with print preview on internetbrowsers... Maybe project in my next life. I'm a naval architect student, so...

IE 5.5 has a print preview option. Finally IE has almost caught up with Netscape on this front.

Concerning IE vs Netscape:
I have no undue love for IE, or anything Windows in particular. However, as someone who's job description entails building out web pages, having IE handy is a must. IE has at least 80% of the market share in browsers, so when a page is built it's built with IE in mind. It's a bit disheartening when you have something that looks great in IE and then you view it in Netscape and it looks like crap. Adherence to standards be damned, when you create a table background image and it's mangled and repeated in every single cell within that table it's just WRONG. You shouldn't have to create a new outside table for the background and use a transparent gif background for every cell in your original table just to get it to work. How can you expect to have a successful browser when the single most important layout tool in web design(the table) is handled so poorly? Running IE in my favorite operating system is totally worth the extra half hour it took to setup. Anyway, enough with the ranting. Hope I didn't offend anyone.
