My cd rom is detected on bios boot, but won't boot to a bootable cd. I put my new cd rom from my other comp and it boots no problem. I thought that booting from a cd rom was a bios thing but obviously not. Also, I can boot from a win floppy, but not from a debian rescue floppy. WTF? After I install linux from cdrom, I can then boot using a linux floppy. If anyone has an explanation, please post.

all i can think of is if you go into the bios screen(hit delete when memory check) and go into the cmos and make sure the cd drive is selected for one of the boot devices... other than that i don't know what else

Just to explain, just because your bios recognizes your CD ROM does not mean it will boot from it. You must set up in your boot options to boot from CD if that is even an option. If it is an older AT board it may not have the option.
I also had problems with a debian boot floppy, (actually Progeny Debian) so I cannot help there.
