I can't decide which of these to use (Although I can't actually get Storm working yet) I like Debian because of apt-get but Slackware seems cool too and worked so easily.
What do you think I should use because I really can't decide.
Btw, unrelated, can Helix Gnome work with Blackbox?
Thanks

I like Slackware myself, though I haven't tried Storm or Debian yet. Slack doesn't have apt-get, but I like to build apps from source anyway.

I have a Storm CD that's been laying around for a few months, so next time I have nothing better to do, I'll install it and let you know.

Its really up to what you want to do with it. Slackware doesnt do aything for me, but then again I like things made easy and Debian provides this.

Apt-Get is a god sent and gives so many options.

Gnome can work with Blackbox but when you compile blackbox (if you do so it has options for this).

I prefer to use it with kfm but thats me. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

I've tried slackware and storm. I have to say I like slackware a lot. Debian does have apt wich is really really cool, but storm never has installed on my system or friends systems for that matter.

It doesn't matter does it? They've all got their ups/downs right? Just go with the one that suits your needs/wants.

Make a decision already!!! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Or better yet...try deciding which BSD you want to use http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

After a couple weeks on a redhat system, I wanted to try something that was a bit less, uhhh Newbified... heh.

Went with slack 7.1... Installed like a dream, gave me a little better knowledge of what was going on in my box, and basically...

I LOVE SLACK.

Haven't tried deb or storm tho.

http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Take care... Hope you find a choice that suits you best.

Well I've used all three and I have to say that you should choose between Debian or Slackware. These two are both excellent, it is only the matter or taste now. I used to run Slck and loved it... now I run Debian and am sticking with it because of "apt-get" it's very very kwel http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

btw...

Hmm, yeah it pretty much has to be Debian or Slack because Storm wont actually work heh. I think I'm gonna go with Debian, apt is excellent.
I'd install Debian and apt-get dist-upgrade it right away but in a little while I'm gonna have to install as many different distros as possible and compile a database program I'm making on them just so see the results.
But, I wanted to go with Slack because there was 2 programs that I couldnt get working in Debian for whatever reason.
I guess Debian it is.
Unless theres the ability to add apt-get and dpkg to slack? I doubt there is but maybe...

What sort of problems are you having with Storm ? I just got mine working (from a Rain CD), edited my /ect/apt/sources.list file, and ran apt-get dist-upgrade and it fixed me up with hail. It took probably 5 or 6 install attempts to get to install. I also did apt-get install for Netscape and Mozilla. PRETTY COOL !

BTW, it took apx. 5-1/2 hours to download the updates from Storm's ftp site. But, it (so far) has been well worth it. I just have a few more questions and a thing or to to configure and I will be all set... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

So far, I like it much better than MDK or RH either one. I'm going to give Slack another go around a little later.

It was a problem with the UDMA Controller that no one at storm or on the users list seems to know how to fix. Oh well.
I've decided to go with Debian and upgrade it to the latest version. I'm also gonna set up the frame buffer for when its booting like it is in slackware so i get that penguin icon.
