As a newbie to Linux, I found RedHat very easy to learn and use:
Easy install - can select from preconfigured installs like "workstation" or "server" and customize those - if u want; let the install do the partitioning for you (u still have to provide some H/W info); recognizes alot of hardware
Easy GUI - RH 6.2 used Gnome/Enlightenment, 7.0 uses Gnome/Sawfish - both pretty intuitive.
Try searching these forums for similar posts, there's tons of them.

Mandrake 7.1 - Installation was a snap... well almost. I guess Mandrake 7.2 is out now.
I highly recommend it for the newbie (like me).
Good luck.

Hi,
After trying Caldera,2.3-2.4,Redhat 6.0-6.2,Mandrake7.0-7.1(mostly downloaded versions)I have to say all worked well, but on my systems Mandrake seemed to be the easiest Install and it picked up my sound and modem best
as well as have more features..My advice is to go to the places like "cheap bytes' or "Linux Central" and pick up cdroms for a buck or so and try them yourself..Thats what I did ..Then I purchased my favorite distro...GoodLuck,
