ok, so i have an hp scanjet 3300 usb scanner and here's the prob...
it won't work (d'uh) :-p
i followed the directions from another post on getting the 4100 usb one to work but when I do insmod scanner vendor=0x03f0 product=0x0205
when i do a scanimage -d hp:/dev/usbscanner
it waits a few secconds and then i get back the error....
scanimage: open of device hp:/dev/usbscanner failed: Error during device I/O
any ideas? i'm not sure where to go from here :(

As I've never setup USB and Linux, I can only suggest http://www.linux-usb.org/ or searching at Google. Hope it helps somewhat.

i'm not trynig to be rude or anything, but if you can't help why did you reply? i said before i looked at the other post on an hp usb scanner and i can't get it to work, and i can't find anything else to help me so far. i don't wanna ignite a war or anything so don't take offense

Damn what a jerk even if you dont intend to be one!! At least he is offering some help please don't forget this is a newbie forum. The reason you scanner won't work is that is not supported by sane if you had RTFM you would know this. Apparently you have a cheap scanner that uses a different form of communication. If you look really hard you will find this out for yourself.

ya know i did RTFM and i didn't see anything about the scanjet 3300 not being supported. and i'm sorry but not everyone can afford a nice expensive scanner like yourself. maybe a $90 is all i could afford, did you think about that? i didn't mean to offend everyone but i saw nothing else about the 3300 anywhere which is why i posted here.
