I've been reading that Mandrake is based on RedHat but does anyone know which version of Redhat its based on?

Linux Mandrake 6.0 IS Redhat 6.0, Mandrake even includes the Redhat manual on the CD. I believe this was also true for 6.2. The Mandrake 7 series went their own way. The file system is the same as Redhat's and RPM's are used. Hope that helps.

It's not based on a version of RedHat, rather it's based on the same directory structure.
Incorporates alot of redhat tools and such.
But Mandrake, at this point, seems to have broken away, if you will, from the "just like redhat" description. It's very much it's own distro with alot of it's own tools.
But in some ways still resembles redhat.
So it's not version related, just "type-of-distro" related.
I think Man 7.2 is probably better than RH 7.0 in many ways (including stability).

I'm not sure if this is completely correct but this is what I remember. Mandrake made their first release with 5.0 and it was using Redhat 5.0. Their following 6.x releases were still based on Redhat but with their 7.x releases they are no longer taking Redhats releases and modifying them although 7.x obviously still has a lot of redhat.
