You can also buy ATA66 and ATA100 cards, to add more IDE hard drives. But be cearful not to use up all your IRQ's. Most modern mobo handle IRQ's pretty well, but they can still cause problems if you add to many things to the system. wygoslo 02-09-2001, 06:42 AM Very interesting. I'm trying to install RedHat 7 on a new second drive I recently put in. With the second drive I installed its own dedicated controller, an ATA/100 PCI card (both card and drive are Maxtor). I've learned that RedHat will see my second drive as a SCSI drive (so it will be /dev/sda I suppose?). I haven't installed RH yet because of all the variables. The plan is to have a multi-boot system, with Win98 on the existing IDE primary master, and RH7 on the second, pseudo-SCSI-whatever. Once it's installed and runs, then I'll try to tweak it up to its 100Mbs potential. My reasoning is, if the system blows up, I can always yank the ATA controller and drive and return everything to its original condition. Comments? I should have RH7 installed inside a month. :-)null compunuts 02-10-2001, 05:54 AM If it's ATA 100 card, why would it blow up using at that speed? And plus, the speed will go as fast as they can go without blowing up your card and drive. :) Yes. Many IDE cards are detected as SCSI since you already have IDE on board. It's a nice mistake though... ;) compunuts 02-10-2001, 05:57 AM Originally posted by freaker: I currently have 2 IDE HD's, and 2 IDE CD's.. Is it possible to add a SCSI card and add a couple SCSI drives Yes. It's how RAID works. For each channel of SCSI card, you can use up to 7 drives. If you have two channels, you can add 14 more drives. Why would you need that many space if you are not running server? justlinux.com
