Lovechild recently posted this in another post:

btw if you are using Mandrake 8.0, you will have little chance of compiling anything as their included GCC is non-standard.

Okay - so this probably explains why I can't get my drivers to compile for my Winmodem (and they are the correct drivers, I definitely have my kernel headers installed, and I definitely have a link pointing to the right directory).

Is there ANY way to fix this? (BTW, I am in Mandrake, which is why I have posted this in the first place.) I would appreciate any help in this matter.

I thought Redhat 7.0 was the one that ships with a nonstandard compiler. I would be genuinely surprised to hear that Mandrake made the same mistake.

Maybe my understanding of the term "nonstandard" is to blame.

as far as i know, and i dont know much since i dont use mandrake, it does not include a stable version.

Correct me if im wrong, but i dont think a non standard compiler would mean you couldnt compile it, i think the main effect might be that the resulting binary would not run on any other version of linux other than the one you compiled on.

But then i dont know much about ths kinds of things...

Well, all I know is that when I tried to build the drivers provided by Lucent Technologies, the compiler said that the header files did not exist, when they clearly do. So...I'm not sure if that even has anything to do with it.

Thanks anyway.
