no video with avifile

i use mandrake 8.0

compiled avifile, and whenever i try to play an avi file or a asf file, there is no video. i THINK there is sound, but definetely not video. anyone can help?

run "aviplay" from a console and try to play an avi file, preferably one you know you can play in another player like maybe the windows one. Look for any error messages in the console window. See if you're getting sound, if you're not getting video, is the video window popping up but it's just blank?

i saw what i got wrong, apparently the divx codec wasnt the only thing needed, i needed all the win32 libraries
