Need help with Kingston kne100tx nic

I just installed a Kingston kne100tx nic in my machine. The pc's not networked, just standalone. I can ping the address and it returns the packet but I'm staring at my prompt now and it just keeps spitting back:
eth0: media is TP
eth0: media is unconnected, link down or incompatible connection

What is going on with this?
The address of the card is 128.128.128.5 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0
The other interface, lo, is at address 127.0.0.1 with netmask 255.0.0.0
Can anyone please help?

Your card is set up for, I think, twisted pair communications, and may require some form of link on the other end to work.
